A Fresh and Colourful New Academy School
Fenestra Nya Hovås is an academy school for children aged 11-16 in Gothenburg, Sweden. When the school moved into the ultra-modern, gold-sparkling Spektrum building, designed by Magnus Månsson and Charlotte Erdegard from the architectural firm Semrén & Månsson, new furnishings were needed: a challenge that AJ Products accepted. The result is a modern and colourful school with a lot of personality.
In addition to the school, the Spektrum building also houses shops, a restaurant and even a bowling alley. The building has become a gathering place for people of all ages. The fact that the school would also be used by the public in the evenings and on weekends put special demands on the interior. Thanks to our experience fitting out not just schools but workplaces, public buildings and even industrial premises, AJ Products was in a good position to deliver on this complex requirement.
"Because the Spektrum building has a specific identity and style, it was important for us that the décor maintained that same look and feel" says Katja Brandt Persson, Headteacher of Fenestra Nya Hovås. "We wanted the school's interior to be in keeping with the rest of the building."
Style without compromising on function and durability
The result of the collaboration between the school, AJ Products and Semrén & Månsson was a bright and modern school with a focus on social areas and noise reduction. The school's décor features blue tones complemented by natural wood furniture for a tranquil feel. "In particular, we wanted durable furniture. We also asked for plenty of seating areas, the option for students to vary their seating position and furniture that dampens the noise level" says Brandt Persson. For her own office the headteacher chose storage cabinets, a coffee table and a desk from the Radius furniture series, which was designed by AJ Products' in-house designer Elin Basander André. The furniture is made of solid oak with brown leather details to give a very natural and inviting feel. "It is very nice and it fits in well with other furniture in the school" Katja tells us.
